Adding an organization to the suggestion list
We've already created pages about a few Non-profit Organizations, but not many. If you know of an organization that you think we should create a new page about, you can add that organization to our list of organizations to look at next
To suggest an organization:
- Spelling: Please check the spelling and capitalization for the name of the non-profit organization that you plan to add.
- In this example, we'll use the organization "The Fistula Foundation".
- You can check the spelling and capitalization by visiting sites like GuideStar, Charity Navigator, and the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, and seeing what they use as the official organization name. You can also check the spelling and capitalization used on Wikipedia, if there's an article about the organization there, or you can check the organization's own web site.
- Please do not include a "The" prefix and an ", Inc." ending, even if those words are regularly included as part of the name when the name appears on other web sites.
- On the Non-profit Organizations page, begin editing the organizations to look at next section by clicking the "edit" link on the right side of the page next to the "New Suggestions" heading.
- On the "Editing Non-profit Organizations" page, add a new line for your new organization. Here's an example:
* The [[Fistula Foundation]]
You can also add a link to the organization's own home page, like this:* The [[Fistula Foundation]] [http://www.fistulafoundation.org/]
Please add your organization in alphabetical order. - Press the "Save page" button.
Creating a page about an organization
You can create new pages about non-profit organizations that we don't yet have pages for. To create a page about an organization, follow these steps:
- 1. If the organization that you want to create a page for is not yet on the list of organizations to look at next, then start by adding the organization to that list by following the steps described above in the section Adding to the suggestion list.
- 2. Find the organization on the list of organizations to look at next. The name of the organization should be a link that links to a page that does not exist yet, so it should look like this example: Fistula Foundation. Click on the link for your organization.
- 3. On the new "Editing (Organization Name)" page, start by adding a template for all the basic info about the organization, like the name and address and of the organization. To add the template, copy this text into the "Editing (Organization Name)" page:
{{Non-profit |
| name =
| address =
| website =
| founded =
| irs-code =
| irs-since =
| irs-ein =
| give-org =
| charity-navigator =
| guidestar =
| up-to-date =
}}
- 4. Now fill in the template with information about the organization. You can fill in as much or as little of the template as you like. All of the information you need should be available on the organization's own web site or on reference sites like give.org, Charity Navigator, and GuideStar. If you're not sure about a question, just leave it blank. Here's an example of what the filled-in template would look like for the Fistula Foundation:
{{Non-profit |
| name = Fistula Foundation
| address = 1171 Homestead Road, Suite 265<br/>Santa Clara, CA 95050
| website = http://www.fistulafoundation.org
| founded = 2000
| irs-code = 501c3
| irs-since = 2001
| irs-ein = 77-0547201
| give-org = http://charityreports.give.org/Public/Report.aspx?CharityID=419
| charity-navigator = http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm/bay/search.summary/orgid/8855.htm
| guidestar = http://www.guidestar.org/pqShowGsReport.do?npoId=100004779
