Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) 

Sub-Saharan Africa generally refers to a set of 46 or 48 countries on the African continent. Sub-Saharan Africa includes almost all of the countries in Africa, excluding only the 6 or 7 northern most countries and the island nation of Mauritius.
